>Last Friday I finally saw Airbag. And they were amazing.

Airbag are a three-piece punk pop band that sound more or less like the Queers would sound if they were from southern Spain. Despite being a fan for a long time, I never got to see them live until last Friday. I didn’t expect much from the concert because I am only familiar with their first albums, but I was pleasantly surprised. I had forgotten how much fun Airbag are.

So, what do these guys sound like? Imagine pop melodies with great vocal harmonies mixed with the energy and force characteristic of punk and a great love of pop culture. Even though Airbag sometimes mourn the loss of their adolescence, it is very much alive in their songs, which at times can resemble a time capsule from the eighties. Apart from being fans of summer, as some of their song titles state (‘I want summer’, ‘ the rubber ring’), they are also avid consumers of pop culture, which has a greater influence in their music. If it wasn’t for their lyrics, they would just be the same as all the similar-sounding bands. But airbag have a gift when it comes to connecting with people who appreciate the same cultural items as they do. They write songs about making mixtapes, horror movies, the rubrik cube and collecting vinyl, and they do so in a very witty way that for me constitutes their biggest appeal. And that’s not to say I don’t like their music. I mean, they sound like the Beach Boys on speed. What’s there not to like?

The concert was really good fun, even if they played at a festival with other bands I wasn’t interested it and I had to pay a small fortune to get in. I am exaggerating a bit, it was expensive, but the most annoying thing was having our rubber rings taken away by the security guys. Thankfully there is pictorial proof.
