Last fake weekend* Cliff and I went to Madrid to see The Get Up Kids and Joey Cape with Tony Sly. A great time was had by all. It was Cliff’s first time in Madrid, so that gave us an excuse to do all the typically touristy things, like:
get ourselves lost in a map.
Take a picture of Cliff with a stupid outfit.
Drink Sangría and eat stupidly overpriced patatas bravas in front of the cathedral.
Pay homage to a horrible song.
We also had the time to do some not-so-typical things like:
Find a wall full of boobs.
Eat Mexican food at La Panza Primero (calle de la Libertad 33)
The Get Up Kids show was amazing. Sound-wise it might not have been the most amazing thing, but the atmosphere made it one of the most fun shows in a very long time. They hadn’t played in Spain since 2001, which implies that many of the people there had never had the chance to see them and were ready to give it all. To this day, I still sound like a middle aged lorry driver. Plus, we got fangirl tattoos AND showed it to them. Bonus.
Joey Cape and Tony Sly‘s acoustic show was mostly fun too. It was great to hear those songs I used to love as a teenager and to hear everybody singing along and stuff, but (yes, there is a major but) I’m not really into their solo stuff or anything No Use For A Name released in like the past 10 years, so at times I found it really boring. Oh well, at least I remembered why I don’t care about No Use anymore and, more importantly, I GOT TO HUG JOEY CAPE!!
* A fake weekend is made out of weekdays that are so good you think the next day’s a Sunday.
